Chinese medicine has evolved alongside traditional Chinese martial arts for thousands of years. Due to this close connection, Chinese medicine has developed a vast repertoire of effective treatments and therapies for sports injuries of all types.

I, personally, have successfully treated everything from simple bruises, sprains, and strains, to fractured and broken bones (many of these injuries being my own!). As any experienced martial artist can tell you, the body will only spontaneously heal to roughly 80% of its original state and physical ability. To get back to full functionality and health (thus also preventing future problems such as arthritis) treatment should be sought for any injury, and it should be sought as soon as possible after the injury.

Chinese medicine offers a full range of therapies including acupuncture, internal medicine, external liniments, massage and acupressure, and cupping (see Modalities). Depending on the severity of the injury, the speed with which treatment is sought, and the patient's overall health, as little as one treatment may be needed to restore health (I have avoided a black eye on several different occasions, and I've greatly reduced the severity of strains by immediate use of acupressure and internal qi gong).

For severe injury (eg. tears and breaks), it is imperative that treatment be sought as soon as possible (alongside Western emergency care as needed, of course). Recovery time can be reduced by as much as 65% and, as mentioned above, we can get the body back to original strength (and sometimes stronger).

Please do not miss out on this unique ability of Chinese medicine to help you with injuries.
