of herbs and their medicinal effects, authored over two thousand years
ago. From this text, over a hundred generations of Chinese medical
herbalists have used and evalauted these herbs in clinical environments,

Written by Fu Qing-zhu (1607-1684), during the Qing dynasty, this
is an extremely important premodern text on Chinese medical gynecology.
Many of the clinical theories and herbal prescriptions applied in modern
times stem from this work. A book such as this allows the practicing
clinician a peek into the sage-like mind of master practitioners that have come
before us.

Chinese medicine could be understood as a collection of many different
theories, or schools of thought, on medical practice. They each share a
core philosophy and fundamental approach, making them distinctly Chinese,
but are different in their respective perspectives and emphasis in
diagnosis and treatment. One of these is referred to as the school of
'Enriching Yin'. This text was the last authored by the founder of that
school, Zhu Dan-xi.
