Molecular Effects of Acupuncture

The molecule adenosine has been implicated as an important player in the physiological effects of acupuncture on the body, by a team from the University of Rochester Medical Center.

This type of research is very interesting as it seeks to explain the effects of acupuncture from a modern biochemical and physiological perspective. And it is this type of research that is likely to have more of an impact on improving its acceptance into mainstream medical care, as biology and chemistry are the languages of modern medicine.

It is important to bear in mind, however, that there has yet to be any comprehensive explanation of the effect of acupuncture, from a modern scientific perspective. It's important to keep this fact separate from the question of whether acupuncture has effect.

Too often, unfortunately, these two are confused - the effectiveness of acupuncture being questioned due to the lack of explanation of its effects, from a biochemical perspective.
