Know Thyself for a Healthier, Happier Life

I am constantly (almost literally) thinking about what the root cause of suffering is and how to engage it.

I've realized one of the biggest sources of poor health choices is lack of self-awareness.

I think this is a main cause of ill health in ways that may not be obvious. It's not that lack of self knowledge means one doesn't know what one wants or know "what's healthy" for yourself.

I think, instead, when you don't know yourself, your self-respect suffers and you are less discerning in what you do with your time and energy than you would with greater self-insight.

It's not a matter of coming to know "facts" about yourself, but more about simply developing a deep sense of who you really are. The more you truly know yourself, the more you'll fight doing things that aren't supportive of your life and happiness, I think.

So a lack of self-respect, ultimately, leads to greater apathy about decisions in life. Without due care, less-than-ideal lifestyle, diet, and career choices may be made.

Once again, then, it comes down to paying attention. To yourself.

Know thyself. You will gain a deeper respect for that being behind the scenes and will, most likely, work harder to honor that person through good health.
